Terrestial Radiation
The
terrestial radiation
is only a small fraction of the
total radiation environment to which the general population is exposed. The highest contributor to the total exposure is radon. The terrestial radiation is due to the
radioactive decay of naturally occuring radioactive atoms.
Maps of
Terrestial Gamma Radioactivity in the US
were prepared by the US Geological Survey (link to the upper URL or its
mirror site).
Maps of
Dose Rate and Airborne Radioactivity in Germany were prepared and are
being updated regularly by the
Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz.
HPGe Detector Spectra of
Uranium Mill Soil and a typical
Air Filter are also available on the Net.
Natural Radioactivity of Food is due to the
accumulation of naturally occuring elements.
